Some designers only focus on how a site looks or perhaps a little bit of SEO (search engine optimisation) and tend to forget about link optimisation.
Link optimisation specifically relates to the internal navigation links and the correct type of external links into and out from your site. (yes, there are good and bad external links)
It is just as important for search engines to view your site with a well designed link structure within your site design as it is to have good content.
It is not true to say - 'more internal links to your website, the higher the search engine ranking', it's about quality not quantity
